Cost of text books in the high schools is high. I look forward to the day when text books can be on tablets.
Tablets allow the students to bookmark pages and highlight sections just like they would a regular text book,. the best part is all this highlighting does not diminish the value of the book as it does a hardback! You can get rid of all the bookmarks and highlighting easily and the next person downloads a brand new copy.
Another great advantage: A tablet is a couple of pounds and stores all the textbooks needed for that semester. Think of the backs of the kids we will be saving since they won't have those heavy backpacks to lug around! {Sorry chiropractors!]
The book can be issued as a loan with an expiry date for the end of the semester. They are doing this already at some Universities in the States.
Yes, tables cost money, But we have spent on each child about $100/semester in books with very little return at the end of the semester. And sometimes the book will no longer be used and so we don't get anything.
Therefore
Four years [grades 9-12] means $200 / year / student.
Four kids [of our 5 that have attended RDP high school] means we have so far paid close to $2800.00 so far with our last child in grade 11 at LTCHS.
Tablets do not help with lab fees or supply costs but this would help families out.
There is also forms for those families with low income. But I think it is those who don't qualify for low income but are not rich either that get hit the hardest.
